The Mutinies
Note: This is written in the perspective to send to Ramie for Amaranth
The Mutinies are a series of revolts and betrayals amongst the Iron Company that span YEAR
Important Characters
Commander Horux
- Mostly distant personality - doesn’t really seem to talk much. Some describe him as being very decisive with his words.
- When in battles he is a strategic commander, where his lack of rousing speeches are made up with decisive battles.
- Many claim that his magical eyes are an ancient artifact that can see the future.
- Was elected long ago to become Commander after the last one was found killed. The killer for the last Commander was never found.
Lieutenant Barakas
- (Note: Gith are quite rare in the Material World, known to reside in the Astral Realm. People know that sometimes Gith come to our world to trade or work, even rarer some of them will settle)
- Said to be an exiled Princess from Volterra. Her demeanor shows that she knows Volterran culture very well, if not born and raised there as well.
- Will rouse the troops when needed, many respect her martial prowess.
Loremaster Amaad
- A smart and considerate man, your encounters with him were nothing noteworthy but seemed pleasant enough of a person.
- You know of Warlocks, and know the magic Amaad wields is one of similar eldritch origin.
- Doubles as a sort of bookkeeper, keeping track of supplies, numbers, tools, etc.
- Unknown origin, doesn’t talk about his past.
- Joined the Iron Company around when Horux first joined, climbed the ranks together.
Standardbearer - EMPTY
- The previous Standardbearer fell in battle during the final confrontation with the Barbarian King. A replacement has yet to have been chosen at this point.
Shipmaster Dûshrat
Head Doctor Varis
Head Engineer Vondal
First Mage Mordecai

Preface
When war broke out in the mainland word spread like wildfire as the people would learn that the Dragon King called for the Irons. Any bouts between nations were usually stuck to skirmishes or battles between Cities. But a Grand War between 2 of the most powerful nations had not been seen in a long time. The Iron Company benefited from seeing the droves of people looking to enlist, bolstering their numbers to the greatest the Company has ever been to, reaching to around 10 000 strong.
War with the Barbarian King
-War with the Barbarian King - 10-15 years?
-Rescued at some point
Goblinoid Invasion
The Goblinoid Invasion was a military invasion of a Goblin army led by a Hobgoblin Warlord would invade from the Platinum Peaks/Evergreen Valley, striking into the heart of the Kingdom while the Royal Army marches into the Verdant Vale.
When first arriving at the camp, you can immediately feel the intensity of these people. Many have found themselves fighting a decade of war and it has worn away at their psyches, leaving many as a shell of their former selves. Long stares that gaze into nothing, haunted by their past. Snappy remarks, words between comrades are quick and utilitarian. Not much small talk happens amongst the people, as most are eager to just survive until the next day. Merriment is rare to come by, as with now being thrown to fight against hordes of goblins has pushed these people to the brink of what sanity they have left. It’s almost as if the soldiers are in a constant state of survival with how many gruesome battles they face.
Being a protege of Mordecai’s you brush shoulders with some of the best of the best within the Iron Company. Some of these soldiers would include people like Gideon, experienced members of the Rings, Carmine (now known as the Ironbane) and other junior officers under the different Irons.
Your abilities would be put to the test by Mordecai as you would be involved in many of these battles. Being inexperienced at first fighting in any sort of full scale combat, it might’ve been daunting at first. (Can expand here on what you might have done during these fights against the goblins. Armies would consist of Goblins, Ogres, and Hobgoblins as leaders within these hordes.)
-expand on more significant people and events in the ongoing war (1 year)
The defense against the invasion would eventually come to an end as the Iron Company would eventually deal the final blow to the Hobgoblin Warlord leading the Goblins.
The Mutinies
The long march back to the southern coast of the mainland would be one fraught with betrayals. Following both the war with the Barbarian King and the extension of the contract to fend off the goblinoid invasion, the Iron Company’s morale was destroyed as numbers were nothing compared to what it once was. What was once 10 000 strong a decade ago now barely peaks over 3000.
-many voice their grievances with the company
-large number of people abandoning the army
-a number of factions form within the army
-faction planning on betraying and attacking significant members of the Iron Company
-faction planning on petitioning a change on leadership
-this group is more open, led by a Dwarf man named Santiago
-faction wanting to loot local areas, pillage even - use their power and vacuum left by absence of large army to carve out areas for themselves to rule
-not led by a singular figure
-a number of factions of soldiers directly under each Iron seem more and more isolated from the rest of the army - only loyal to their Iron
With these numerous factions propping up the army is more and more fragmented. You might have been responsible in assisting Mordecai in taking away some power from these factions, whether that be through subterfuge, talking, or even just murder [up to you what you would want to do]. During this time, Mordecai might voice his opinions on Horux and how he is ruling. At this point he would tell you the power of his eyes are real, that they can truly see the future. But over time it seems as though Horux is haunted by what he sees. Why could he not predict the downfall of the Iron Company? Why could he not see the troubles that would come?
-need to add probably a few events that would happen leading up to initial Mutines
What would essentially transpire is the equivalent of a civil war within the army. Numerous factions will decide to take their chance to pursue their goals, with many of the traitors looking to mainly make a name for themselves through soldiers of the Irons, forming their own company after taking some sort of trophy, the most prized of which was the head of an Iron.
Many skirmishes were fought overtime as a number of mutines were attempted, but this would eventually come to a head and the large camp of the Iron Company would turn into almost a battlefield.
-need to expand on significant phases on the Mutiny
But since you were with Mordecai, you would have been tasked with staying with him to protect Horux.
It seems members of the Irons too had their differences, and also decided that enough is enough.
-Learn that Dushrat will fall
-reports of Vondal and Varis fight with Barakas, some people say they are all fighting each other
It’s hard to discern exactly what is happening as you and Mordecai are more focused on protecting Horux and getting him out.
Horux seems in a daze, as he almost resembles a decrepit man. Someone in shock from battle, can only be led around and not moved on his own.
Unfortunately it seems that some members of the Rings have taken their chance to take down the Commander himself.
-need to add members of the Rings - possible future Traitors to pursue later
Before long, it seems Amaad decides to step in. But not to help you. He seems to take this chance to attack you guys as well.
It’s almost a 3-way fight between
Horux + Mordecai + Amaranth + some Rings
Vs.
Rings Traitors
Vs.
Amaad
The Ring Traitors use the opportunity to work with Amaad to fight you guys, while you yourself are surprised the fight continues with Mordecai and Amaad talking about why Amaad would betray Horux.
-they talk about how Horux is no longer capable of leading
-“Have you wondered who gave him those eyes” -Amaad
-”You seemed convinced when I talked with you about him, why stay loyal to the end?”
Towards the end of the fight Amaad seems to grow more desperate, more raving in a sense- totally different then his usual composed self
-”You don’t know what I’ve read in that book, the dark secrets held within”
-”Even past Lorekeepers didn’t know the power this book has, what I could ascertain in there can change this world completely”
-”His eyes still work perfectly, yet he still marches us to his death. Do you understand?”
-a lull in the fight where Mordecai seems to be distracted by these words, and Amaad gets a good hit in
The fight will come to a climax as while you and Mordecai attempt to get a decisive blow on Amaad, Horux uses this as his chance to slip in and kill Amaad.
Amaad is dead, but the rest of the Traitor Rings are overwhelming you all.
As the pressure surmounts on you, Mordecai, and Horux. Your magic seems to burst out of you. STASIS
